Update:

The victim of a fatal crash that occurred last night, 11/29/2022, was identified during an autopsy at the Oregon State Medical Examiners Office earlier today.  He is 35 year old Luis Miguel Jimenez of Astoria.  Jimenez’s death was the result of blunt force trauma to the head.   The scene investigation and post mortem examination indicates that Jimenez had fallen, presumably from his bike on the sidewalk, partially into the roadway where he was struck by a passing vehicle.  Investigators have identified a Semi-tractor trailer truck and operator that was passing through the area just prior to Astoria Police Department being notified of the crash.  At this time, investigators believe the Semi trailer struck Jimenez, unbeknownst to the vehicle operator. These details remain under investigation and the company and operator are cooperating with the investigation.   If anyone witnessed or has information regarding the crash they are asked to contact Detective A.J. Human remains located on the railroad tracks East of Alderbrook Beach on August 10, 2022 have been positively identified as those of John Mattson, age 74 of Astoria.   Mattson’s death has been determined to be from natural causes.

Astoria Police investigate human remains found on the railroad tracks East of Alderbrook Beach

On 08/10/2022 at 7:07 PM Astoria Police were dispatched to a report that a passerby located a deceased individual on the railroad tracks East of Alderbrook Beach.  On arrival police discovered remains of an older male subject in an advanced state of decomposition.   Investigation at the scene by a Clatsop County Medicolegal Death investigator revealed no signs of foul play.  Receipts with the body suggest the body could have been at the location for as long as a month.  Through additional investigation today, the individual has been identified but the name of the individual is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Astoria Police Department is issuing a reminder that the Astoria Regatta Association, Grand Land Parade begins at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday August 13^th 2022.  Traffic will be disrupted through the downtown core beginning around 8:00 A.M.

At 8:30 A.M. Exchange Street will be closed between 23^rd and 16^th.  The Hospital, its urgent care and the Park Medical Building will be accessible from Marine Drive at 20^th, 21^st, and 23^rd.

Exchange and Duane between 17^th and 9^th will have no on street parking on Saturday until the parade ends.  The no parking areas will be signed and any vehicles parked at those locations will be removed by a tow truck.  The owner will be responsible for the tow fees.

At about 10:30 a.m., all northbound and southbound streets (the number streets) will be closed between Commercial Street and Franklin Street between 17^th and 8^th.

These traffic disruptions will last until the parade has ended and the street has been swept.

Highway 30 will remain open but you may experience delays due to pedestrian traffic and floats moving to the disband area. Traffic needing to get to or from areas South of Downtown Astoria should use unaffected, alternate routes.

Deputy Chief Eric Halverson said, “We appreciate the community’s patience in dealing with the traffic disruptions that occur during the parade each year.  Our goal is to limit the disruptions for the motoring public, while providing a safe route for people to view the procession.”

Donald Lee Sparling has been located and is in custody on charges unrelated to the two bank robberies.

Astoria Police Department Detective Duryea has identified the suspect from a bank robbery at Lewis and Clark Bank, 988 Commercial St which occurred on June 30th, 2022.

The same suspect has been identified in the robbery of Wauna Federal Credit Union which occurred today, July 8th, 2022 at 10:59 AM.

The suspect sought has been identified as 68 year old Donald Lee Sparling.  Photos from each of the robberies as well as a photo of Sparling can be seen below.   Anyone with information regarding Sparling’s whereabouts are asked to contact Astoria Police Department at 503-325-4411, or call 911.  People should not approach Mr. Sparling.

On 07/08/2022 at 10:59 AM Astoria Police received a report that a bank robbery had just occurred at the Wauna Federal Credit Union located at 595 Marine Dr. in Astoria.  The suspect, described as an older white male, with a black baseball hat with logo, sun glasses with blue polarization, an orange puffy jacket and black cargo pants, presented a note to a teller and left with an undisclosed amount of money.  The suspect was seen leaving on foot eastbound towards Ticor Title on Bond Street.  Anyone who may have seen the suspect is asked to contact the Astoria Police Department at 503-325-4411.

On 06/30/2022 at 12:29 hrs. Astoria Police received a report of a bank robbery that had just occurred at Lewis and Clark Bank located at 988 Commercial St.  A white male subject estimated to be in his 50’s – 60’s entered the bank and presented a note to the teller, leaving with an undisclosed amount of money.  The man is described as wearing black beanie hat, mirrored sunglasses, black and blue rain jacket, and black footwear.  He was last seen leaving the area on 10th Street towards Marine Drive.  Anyone who may have seen the individual in the vicinity before or after the robbery is asked to contact Astoria Police Department at 503-325-4411, or Detective AJ Duryea at 503-298-2533, aduryea@astoria.or.us.
